Finally home!

How can two short weeks seem so long? The time between finding out about our new Little Man and bringing him home seemed so very long in terms of getting him into our house, but so short when you think of preparing for a new baby. It was a crazy, hectic, stressful time, but we all survived it, and we got the Little Man home to Scrivnerburg. Although I’ve seen him get overstimulated on several occasions, he handled the first evening of chaos quite well. All the kids wanted to see him…touch him…hold him, and Grandma and Felice came over to visit him, so there was a lot of activity. He got the hiccups (an indicator of overstimulation) but he never fussed acted stressed. Whew! This place overstimulates me at times, so it must have really been something to a new person who had rarely encountered more than one person at a time.

Admiring the new baby

To be honest, I barely remember that first week at home. I know we had WIC and doctor appointments and they both told us he’s doing great. I’m pretty sure I fed the family and did some work. And I got up at night. I think it was 27 times a night. Or something like that. June 21-28 it just hazy to me. If I said or did anything strange, rude, or ridiculous during that time please chalk it up to sleep deprivation.

We didn’t suddenly start sleeping after the 28th, but I have started feeling a bit more human. Little Man has started taking more food at each feeding, so he does sleep a little longer, and he’s much more content to just lay and look around now, so I can doze even if he’s awake. I’m still not getting more than a total of 5.5-6 hours of sleep each night, but it must be better quality sleep, because I don’t feel quite so addled this week.

Stay tuned for the baby shower report!
