Scrivnerburg has been BUSY!

Zowie, Howie have we been busy! We’ve been schooling, working, playing, and some of us have been handcrafting Christmas gifts. It has been a very fast fall/early winter. I would love to show you some of the things we’ve been working on so hard, but I don’t want to give anything away, so the photos will have to wait until after Christmas.

To catch up a bit… We had a lovely Thanksgiving – great food, fun fellowship, lots of pie. I think everyone enjoyed it.

We have been enjoying school. One of my favorite parts about homeschooling is the funny, funny, funnies my kids inadvertently come up with.

  • Test review question: Who was the general commanding 8,000 men who was sent against Quebec?
"Oh! I know - General James Bond!"
  • Preparing for a test at Scrivnerburg Academy:
Mom - "What two materials were used to make linsey-woolsey fabric?"
    Nathan - "Wool."
    Mom - "And...?"
    Kristi - "Wildcat."
    ...
Mom - "Okay - what material was used for the 'LINSEY' part of 'linsey-woolsey?"
    3 kids - "Thread."
(at the same time) Austin - "Eisenberg."
  • "I hate these poems! They're so 'not-make-sensey!'"
  • Kristi - "Mom! 36+46=82!"
    Mom - "Yes! Hey - 27+34=61!"
Kristi - "Yep." then she walks away as if we just had the most insightful discussion. Funny girl.

Christmas break is coming up fast. To be honest, I’m looking forward to a whole bunch of days without school. But I can’t believe we’ve made it almost halfway through the school year already! I feel like we’re really accomplishing something! We have several helpers who come and read with the kids, and that is such a blessing. I think the kids are really making progress, and all of the helpers seem to enjoy working with them. So far it’s been a great situation for all of us.

Here’s one more photo just to tide you over until I can share my Christmas crafts…Little Man in his Christmas finery – sorta.
